The franchise began with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! in 1969 and follows a group of young mystery solvers travelling from place to place in their famous van, the Mystery Machine. Whenever they encounter ghosts, monsters or strange events, Scooby-Doo and his friends investigate the mystery and usually discover that there is a logical explanation behind it.

1. Scooby-Doo
Scooby-Doo is the central character of the franchise.
He is a large brown Great Dane who can speak in a funny, distinctive way. Scooby is friendly and loyal but easily frightened by ghosts, monsters and anything supernatural.
Food is one of his greatest weaknesses. Scooby loves snacks, especially Scooby Snacks, and Shaggy can usually convince him to enter a dangerous place by offering him one.

2. Shaggy Rogers
Norville “Shaggy” Rogers is Scooby’s best friend.

He also shares Scooby’s enormous appetite. The pair can eat huge sandwiches and large amounts of food in a single sitting.

3. Fred Jones
Fred Jones is usually the leader of Mystery Inc.
He is confident, brave and good at creating plans to capture villains.
Fred often studies the clues and designs complicated traps. Unfortunately, some of his traps do not work exactly as planned.
He is also strongly associated with the Mystery Machine and often drives the group from one adventure to another.
4. Daphne Blake
Daphne Blake is another important member of Mystery Inc.
She is stylish, adventurous and increasingly shown as brave and capable in later versions of the series.
In early cartoons, Daphne sometimes found herself trapped or captured during mysteries. Over time, her character developed into a stronger investigator who can defend herself and help solve cases.
She is usually recognizable by her purple outfit and red hair.
5. Velma Dinkley
Velma Dinkley is the smartest member of Mystery Inc.
She wears glasses and is famous for carefully examining clues.
Velma usually provides the logical explanation behind strange events and is often the first person to suspect that a supposed ghost or monster may actually be someone in disguise.
Her catchphrase “Jinkies!” is one of the most famous lines in the franchise.
6. Scrappy-Doo
Scrappy-Doo is Scooby-Doo’s small but fearless nephew.
Unlike Scooby, Scrappy rarely runs away from danger. He prefers charging directly toward villains while shouting about his “puppy power.”
His confidence is often much greater than his size.
Scrappy became a major character in several Scooby-Doo cartoons and regularly pushed Scooby and Shaggy into situations they would rather avoid.
7. Scooby-Dum
Scooby-Dum is one of Scooby-Doo’s cousins.
He is a grey Great Dane who is friendly but not especially intelligent.
Scooby-Dum dreams of becoming a detective and often tries to help solve mysteries.
Unfortunately, his attempts can create confusion before the gang finally discovers the truth.
8. Vincent Van Ghoul
Vincent Van Ghoul is a powerful magician and supernatural expert.
He plays an important role in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.
Unlike many Scooby-Doo mysteries where the monster is fake, Vincent deals with genuine supernatural threats.
He guides Scooby, Shaggy and their friends during their dangerous search for thirteen escaped ghosts.
9. Flim-Flam
Flim-Flam is a young boy who appears in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.
He is clever, talkative and always looking for opportunities to make money.
Despite his mischievous personality, Flim-Flam becomes an important ally during the group’s supernatural adventures.
10. The Hex Girls
The Hex Girls are a gothic rock band that first became famous through Scooby-Doo! and the Witch’s Ghost.

Dynomutt is Blue Falcon’s robotic dog companion.
