Dexter may look like an ordinary schoolboy, but behind a secret door in his bedroom is a gigantic scientific laboratory filled with robots, machines and inventions.
Dexter’s Laboratory is an American animated television series created by Genndy Tartakovsky for Cartoon Network. The cartoon mainly follows Dexter, a young scientific genius who tries to keep his laboratory secret from his family. His biggest problem is his cheerful older sister Dee Dee, who somehow keeps finding her way inside.

1. Dexter
Dexter is the main character of Dexter’s Laboratory.
He is a short, highly intelligent boy with orange hair, thick glasses, a white laboratory coat and black boots. Although he is still a child, Dexter can build robots, spaceships, time machines and many other inventions that would challenge professional scientists.
His enormous laboratory is hidden inside his family’s home. Surprisingly, Dexter’s parents remain mostly unaware of what their son is doing.
Dexter is extremely proud of his intelligence and sometimes believes he can solve every problem through science. Unfortunately, his confidence can make him careless.
His experiments frequently go wrong, especially after Dee Dee enters the laboratory and begins pressing buttons.
2. Dee Dee
Dee Dee is Dexter’s older sister and the person most capable of destroying his carefully planned experiments.
She is cheerful, energetic and fascinated by everything inside Dexter’s laboratory. Dee Dee loves dancing and frequently imagines herself as a ballerina.
Dexter constantly tries to stop her from entering his lab, but she always seems to find a way inside.
One of her most famous habits is pressing mysterious buttons simply because she wants to know what they do.
Although Dexter and Dee Dee argue constantly, they care about each other and occasionally work together when serious trouble appears.
3. Mom
Mom is Dexter and Dee Dee’s mother.
She is usually shown wearing gloves and keeping the family home extremely clean. Cleaning and organizing seem to be among her favourite activities.
Despite living in the same house as Dexter’s enormous laboratory, she generally has no idea that it exists.
Mom cares deeply about her children but sometimes becomes frustrated by the strange problems they create around the house.
4. Dad
Dad is Dexter and Dee Dee’s cheerful father.
He is often shown as playful, enthusiastic and sometimes even more childish than his children.
Dad becomes extremely excited about food, television and family activities. His behaviour can create some of the funniest moments outside Dexter’s laboratory.
Like Mom, he remains largely unaware of Dexter’s secret scientific world.
5. Mandark
Mandark is Dexter’s greatest scientific rival.
He is another child genius and is often just as intelligent as Dexter. Mandark builds his own advanced laboratory and constantly tries to prove that he is the better scientist.
Unlike Dexter, Mandark often uses his inventions for selfish or destructive purposes.
His rivalry with Dexter leads to competitions involving robots, scientific experiments and enormous machines.
Mandark is also famous for his unusual laugh, which makes him one of the most recognizable villains in the series.
6. Susan Astronomonov
One of the funniest facts about Mandark is that his real name is Susan Astronomonov.
He dislikes being called Susan and prefers the far more dramatic name Mandark.
His unusual childhood and relationship with his parents are explored in some episodes, showing how he developed his intense personality and obsession with science.
Mandark also has a strong crush on Dee Dee, something Dexter finds especially irritating.
7. Monkey
Monkey is Dexter’s laboratory monkey.
Dexter performs experiments on Monkey because he believes the animal is simply an ordinary test subject.
What Dexter does not realize for a long time is that Monkey secretly possesses extraordinary powers.
When danger appears, Monkey becomes a superhero and goes on missions to protect the world.
His secret identity creates a funny situation because Dexter, despite being a genius, often fails to recognize just how special his own laboratory animal is.
8. Agent Honeydew
Agent Honeydew is Monkey’s secret-agent partner.
She works alongside him on dangerous missions and helps fight villains threatening the world.
Agent Honeydew appears mainly in the Dial M for Monkey segments of the series.

9. Major Glory
Major Glory is one of the major superheroes appearing in Dexter’s world.

The Infraggable Krunk is the third major member of the Justice Friends.

Lee Lee is another of Dee Dee’s close friends.
