Myanmar is the eastern neighbor of India, which is not a big country, but still pretty significant for India. And talking a few things about this neighbor of ours, it is mainly a Buddhist country where as many as 90% of the people follow Buddhism, specifically Theravada Buddhism. And India actually shares a considerable border with this nation, which stretches about 1,643 kilometers in total and touches the Indian states. Today, specifically though, we’re here to talk about the states that share a border with Myanmar as of 2026. So let’s get to it then.

1. Arunachal Pradesh
Arunachal Pradesh tops our list mainly due to the fact that it shares the longest border with Myanmar out of all the Indian states. The border stretch is estimated to be about 520 kilometers, which also makes it the largest section of the whole India-Myanmar boundary.
Talking about the border and the region surrounding it, see, this borderline section passes through very steep mountains and thick forest cover, which makes the surroundings lovely and the border difficult to access. One of the locations that has a deep history here is the Pangsau Pass near Nampong, which is the road connection between India and Myanmar through the old Stilwell Road that was constructed during World War II. Not a single doubt in the fact that being a very remote area and having an extremely rugged landscape, this border section is regarded as sensitive and strategically important from a defense perspective.
2. Mizoram
On our list, Mizoram ranks second because it has a little less than 510 kilometers of border with Myanmar, you know, the length being slightly less compared to Arunachal Pradesh’s border. But pretty significant too.
This southern part of the border is mainly composed of hills and thick forests. In contrast to the northern border, this area witnesses more local cross-border movement. If you’re from Mizoram, then you very well know how Zokhawthar town serves as a major point for people and small-scale trading. That’s the prime example of what we meant by the cross-border movement here. Apart from that, this piece of border is very important as the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, which is designed to enhance India’s connectivity with Myanmar and other places, goes through Mizoram. Other than that, people from both sides will agree that the cultural relationships between the border communities have always been very close here.
3. Manipur
Then comes Manipur, and it is ranked third today because of the size of the border, which is about 398 kilometers in total with Myanmar, but also the overall significance of this very stretch of line between two nations.
The factor that really makes Manipur different is the Moreh-Tamu border crossing, which is pretty much is the most important land gateway between the two countries. This road leads straight to the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, thus making Manipur an essential player in regional trade and transport. Out of all the border states, Manipur has the greatest amount of organized cross-border commercial activities, which gives it a very high strategic value, and that’s why whenever we’re talking about Myanmar and India relations in general, we must mention this very state.
4. Nagaland
And then comes the shortest border with Myanmar, and that is where we must talk about Nagaland, because it only shares about 215 kilometers of stretch with Myanmar.
And if you’re from this state, then you know that this border is located along the Patkai Hills and is very densely wooded. A special feature of Nagaland’s border is that Naga tribes inhabit both sides, thus there is a strong ethnic and cultural bonding. In fact, due to these relationships, locals have been crossing the border for many years. But the thing is, yes, the rugged landscape and thick vegetation make this part a very difficult one to regularly check. Besides, it is a less commercially active border area in comparison to Manipur or Mizoram, we must say that at least.
