BJP, or the Bharatiya Janata Party, is in power right here in India, and for the third consecutive term, actually. This time around, though, it is actually a coalition government. Still, there are many states in India, 13 to be precise, where the BJP is in an absolute majority, and in some others, they’re leading with the alliance called the NDA. Today though, we’re here specifically to talk about the list of BJP-ruled states in India as of 2026.

1. Arunachal Pradesh
Since the list is long, let’s just go in alphabetical order, and doing just that, no doubt, Arunachal Pradesh is definitely one of the leading states here. Though, it is not just that we’re going in alphabetical order, and that’s why we have put it at the top, see, another reason is that the BJP’s dominance in the state has been very strong lately. How? Oh, the BJP bagged 46 seats out of a total 60 seats in the 2024 assembly elections, which is a very comfortable majority. Therefore, with this overwhelming majority, Pema Khandu was Chief Minister again.
2. Assam
For a long time now, surely, there has been just the BJP government in Assam, as has been the case ever since 2016. So, pretty much completing 10 years as of 2026, right? Talking about the recent election, see, after repeating the feat in the 2021 assembly election, the BJP continued its rule under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma. And things are looking good for BJP in Assam because the next elections are just in 2026, so let’s see what happens.
3. Chhattisgarh
Recently, you might have seen that Chhattisgarh is on this list because BJP made a very strong political comeback here. How exactly? See, after the 2023 assembly election, Chhattisgarh went back to BJP rule when the party won 54 seats, a majority that allowed them to form the government without any trouble whatsoever. Following the win, Vishnu Deo Sai was appointed as Chief Minister. Two more years until their rule, and in the 2028 elections, we’ll come to know how well the BJP has done in this very state.
4. Goa
Sure, we get it, Goa may be one of the smallest states in India in terms of geographical area, but it still carries political significance that cannot be measured in terms of size alone, and that’s why all major parties take part in whenever the elections are going on here. Talking about the last election, see, the BJP grabbed 20 seats out of 40 in the 2022 assembly election, formed the government with some more support, Pramod Sawant was appointed again as Chief Minister, and the same government is till now functioning in 2026. Plain and simple!
5. Gujarat
Gujarat is pretty much known as the home state of the BJP party because not just the BJP has been ruling here for a long time, and they have done good work, but many visionary BJP leaders have also come from this very state. Talking about how big their victory was, see, in the 2022 assembly election, Gujarat alone accounted for 156 seats out of 182 to BJP, the margin of victory was simply overwhelming. Bhupendra Patel was retained as the chief minister after such an unprecedented result.
6. Haryana
It was just in the 2024 state elections that the BJP somehow returned to power in Haryana, or maybe the general public wanted to give them a chance or genuinely see a change in how things are usually run. So, in the 2024 state election, the state handed over 48 seats out of 90 to the BJP, a clear majority to form the government. Talking about the CM post, so, Nayab Singh Saini is at it for now.
7. Madhya Pradesh
The thing you should note here is the fact that Madhya Pradesh is significantly different from the others in this list due to the enormous volume of its mandate. The BJP bagged 163 out of 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh during the 2023 assembly poll, thus, overwhelmingly defeating the rival parties and leaving no ground for any speculation about the people’s support. CM? Oh, that would be Mohan Yadav.
8. Maharashtra
We must say one thing: yes, Maharashtra’s scenario is a little bit different from most of the other cases in this list. How exactly, though? See, Maharashtra is governed by a coalition in which the BJP has a major part. The present government took over the administration in the middle of 2022, with Eknath Shinde as the Chief Minister.
9. Odisha
No doubt, Odisha is certainly among the most significant new additions to this list. Down there, actually, the BJP government came into power in the state by winning 78 seats out of 147 in the 2024 assembly election. Mohan Charan Majhi was sworn in as Chief Minister after this massive win of a big chunk of seats.
10. Rajasthan
Rajasthan has been the state where Congress and the BJP change rule after every election, and this time around, in the 2023 assembly elections, it was the BJP that came out winning with securing 115 of 199 seats in Rajasthan. And as for the CM, we saw a new face with Bhajan Lal Sharma leading the charge.
11. Tripura
Going down a bit, see as of early 2026, Tripura still has a BJP government. Even though the state has a smaller assembly, the ruling status is clear and unchanged. This very fact is enough for Tripura to continue being among the BJP-ruled states.
12. Uttar Pradesh
And then, no doubt, any list of BJP-ruled states will have to include Uttar Pradesh. The 2022 assembly election saw Uttar Pradesh giving a landslide victory to the BJP as the party won 255 out of 403 seats. Remember that one? And CM is, of course, none other than Yogi Adityanath.
13. Uttarakhand
And surely, last on the list, Uttarakhand is a place that gets a special mention in this list, as it was also through the 2022 election that the BJP could put an end to the trend of one-term governments in the state. This time around though, the BJP bagged 47 seats in 2022 and hence was able to form the government for another term in Uttarakhand.
